Richard Blair is a producer , engineer and musician. He trained under Peter Gabriel and Daniel Lanois at Real World Studios in his native England, but for many years has made his home in Bogota, where he has worked with some of the biggest stars in modern Latin music. He has been an especially formative influence on Colombian music over the last 20 years, working on landmark records with Toto la Momposina, Carlos Vives, Chocquibtown, Aterciopelados and his own band sidestepper.
Blair began his career in 1989 at Sinewave, a mid-size 24-track studio  in Birmingham UK, where he worked with members of Steel Pulse and local Bhangra bands.  In 1990 he moved to Real World Studios as Peter Gabriel's  assistant engineer, and worked on the Peter Gabriel album 'Us', programming electronic beats and assisting the recording sessions.
During his time at Real World he worked with some great producers, engineers and musicians, such as Brian Eno , Daniel Lanois, Rupert Hine, Bob Ezrin, Sinead O Connor, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Tony Levin, and with extraordinary music from all over the world, from the Cambodian National Dance Company to Colombia's Toto la Momposina.
In 1993, Blair went to Bogota to work with Toto, both as a live engineer and to help produce her studio recordings. For the next two years he lived in Colombia, touring with Toto and working with local bands like Aterciopelados, whose first record he mixed in 1993.
While producing Carlos Vives’ La Tierra de el Olvido in 1994 he met future sidestepper collaborators Ivan Benavides and Teto Ocampo. He returned to London to begin work on the sidestepper project in 1996, and the singles 'Maine' and 'Logozo' came out in 1996-97, arguably the first records in the world to mix Latin culture with hard n heavy London drum and bass.
Throughout the next few years Blair continued to work as a producer, notably on two records for the Mexican band Azul Violeta, as well as the album Cuban Soul by Havana combo Asere in 1998. When Sidestepper was signed to Chris Blackwell's Palm Pictures label in 1999, more time could be spent on that project, and 2000 saw the release of Sidestepper’s debut album more grip , followed by European touring.
In 2002 Blair went back to Bogota to write and record Sidestepper's 3AM In Beats We Trust. Upon its 2003 release, he moved back to Colombia to put together a live band, and the group toured extensively in the US, Mexico, Colombia and Europe over the next few years, gaining a reputation for a firing live show . sidestepper had several big hits in Colombia and became hugely influential in the emerging boom of modern Colombian beat music. They are currently making a new record.
He lives in Bogota and continues to produce and mix, both in Colombia and the wider caribbean, specialising in dance music and recording bands who can play it live .

Richard Blair es un productor, ingeniero y músico. Se formo con Peter Gabriel y Daniel Lanois en Real World es en su natal Inglaterra, pero por muchos años a hecho de Bogotá Colombia su hogar, lugar donde ha trabajado con algunas de las estrellas mas grandes de la música colombiana durante los últimos 20 años, trabajando en discos iconicos con artistas como Totó la Momposina, Carlos Vives, Chocquibtown y su propia banda sidestepper.
Blair comenzó su carrera en 1989 en Sinewave, un estudio mediano de 24 canales en Birmingham , Inglaterra, donde trabajo con miembros de Steel Pulse u bandas Bhangra locales. En 1990 paso a Real World estudios como ingeniero asistente de Peter Gabriel y trabajo en el álbum ´US´, programando ritmos electronicos y asistiendo en las sesiones de grabacion.
Durante su tiempo en Real World trabajo con grandes productores como Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, Rupert Hine y Bob Ezrin, y con músicos como Sinead O´Connor , Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Tony Levin y extraordinarios músicos de todo el mundo, desde la Cambodian National Dance Company hasta la colombiana Totó La Momposina.
In 1993 Blair se mudo a Bogotá donde trabajo con Totó como ingeniero en vivo y ayudandola a producir sus discos de estudio. Por los próximos dos años vivió en Colombia viajando con Totó y trabajando con bandas locales como Los Aterciopelados , cuyo primer disco mezclo en 1993.
Mientra producía La Tierra del Olvido de Carlos Vives en 1994 conoció a los futuros colaboradores de sidestepper Iván Benavides y Teto Ocampo. Después regreso a Londres para comenzar a trabajar en el projecto sidestepper en 1996. Los sencillos ´Maine´y ´Logozo´salieron en 1996 - 7 , probablemente los primeros discos en el mundo en mezclar la cultura latina con drum and bass londinense del duro.
Durante los próximos años Richard continuo trabajando como productor, destacadamente en dos discos de la banda mexicana Azul Violeta, así como también el disco Cuban Soul por Havana combo Asere en 1998. Cuando sidestepper firmo con la disquera Palm Pictures en 1999 mas tiempo pudo ser pasado en ese proyecto y en el 2000 vio el lanzamiento de el disco de sidestepper ´More Grip, seguido de una gira Europea.
En el 2002 Blair regreso a Bogotá para componer y grabar el segundo disco de sidestepper 3AM In Beats we Trust . Tras su lanzamiento en el 2003 se mudo de nuevo a Colombia para armar una banda en vivo. El grupo giró extensivamente por EEUU, Mexico, Colombia y Europa por los próximos años, ganando la reputación de prender los shows en vivo. Sidestepper tuvo varios éxitos en Colombia y se convirtio en una fuerte influencia en el boom moderno de la música colombiana. Actualmente están haciendo un nuevo álbum.
Richard vive en Bogotá y continua produciendo y mezclando, tanto en Colombia como alrededor del caribe, especializándose en música bailable y en grabar bandas que pueden hacerlo en vivo.
